The Red Zone with Clayton Ferraro and Adam Mendelson

Step into "The Red Zone" with WINK-TV Sports Director Clayton Ferraro and Adam Mendelson weekdays from 3pm-7pm.  When Clayton and Adam aren't talking about the big sports stories of the day they're going "Coast to Coast" to talk with the people who cover the athletes making headlines each and every day.  The phone lines are open throughout the show giving you a chance to ask questions or even just talk a little smack (and trust us, you'll get plenty of opportunity to do that).  And you never know what other off-the-wall topics will end up being discussed.  No subject is too hot for "The Red Zone", weekdays from 3pm until 7pm on The New Fox Sports Radio 1200, Sports Now!

Adam Mendelson

Adam@FoxSportsRadio1200.com

1.. Why did you get into radio?
Because when you love and live sports, but stand 5'9" and weight 125 pounds (after a good meal), you find a way to talk about sports for a living rather than play sports for a living.  Plus, I've been told my face is not yet ready for HD.

 2. What is your favorite part of your job?
Just the opportunity to be myself and talk about sports for 4 hours a day is a dream come true.  I love "arguing" my points and talking with the callers.  Of course, it helps that I'm never wrong.  Just ask Clayton...

3. Who is your favorite athlete of all time?
I'm from Baltimore, so I'm required to say Cal Ripken, Jr.  I know he wasn't the best baseball player of all time (not even close), but the Iron Man is an absolute legend who would have been a first ballot Hall of Famer even without "The Streak."

4. Which teams did you root for growing up?
The Baltimore Orioles, The Washington Redskins until the Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens who I now root for, Maryland Terrapins Basketball, and the Washington Capitals.  I was also raised a Michigan Wolverine football fan (both my parents went to Michigan), but now root hard for alma mater, the Northwestern Wildca ts!  In fact, I may be the biggest (if not the only) Northwestern fan in Southwest Florida.

5. What is the biggest sports rivalry in the country and why?
Duke-UNC basketball.  Sorry to disappoint many of you, but no rivalry comes close to matching the intensity these two teams bring to the court every time they play.  Separated by less than 10 miles, these two teams hate each other.  And no matter the records, you can usually count on the final outcome being close.  Keep in mind, I dislike both of these teams, but I make time to watch these games every year.

6. What is the greatest athletic event that you have ever seen?
This is a tough one... I'm going to go with Cal Ripken breaking Lou Gherig's consecutive games streak, because I've never been in a stadium that was so full of emotion.  I will never forget the lap Cal took around Camden Yards that night or the crowd reaction after he hit a home-run.  I'm pretty sure that's the loudest sound I've ever heard at a sporting event.  (Close second:  Michigan beating Washington State in the 1998 Rose Bowl)

7. What is a sport that you never thought you would like, but now have grown to enjoy?
NASCAR.  I'm not even close to an expert, but I always find time to watch the races every weekend.  Never in a million years did I think that would ever happen.  There's just something exciting about not knowing what's going to happen each and every week.

8. Favorite actor and actress of all time?
Kevin Spacey and ???.  I can honestly say there isn't an actress out there that I can call my favorite.  I'll be happy to take suggestions!

9. Five Favorite Movies of all time?
1-- Shawshank Redemption.
2-- The Usual Suspects
3-- Life is Beautiful
4-- Hoosiers
5-- Space Jam (just kidding, just kidding)... Field of Dreams

10. If you were not working in radio, what would you be doing?
Trying to work in radio.  Or working behind the scenes in television (I was a producer for 6 years before moving to radio).

11. Who has been the biggest influence in your career?
Jon Miller, the current ESPN and San Francisco Giants announcer and former play-by-play man for the Baltimore Orioles.  The first year I followed the Orioles was 1988, when they started the season on a 21 GAME LOSING STREAK!  Miller made listening to that team fun and has been my idol ever since.  When he was told he didn't "bleed orange and black" enough (in other words, he wasn't an apologist for the team), he promptly left town.  He showed he wouldn't sacrifice his beliefs just to make a paycheck and that's something I will always admire.

15. Personal Stuff

16. Career Highlights
Doing play-by-play for various Northwestern Wildcat teams during my time there (1998-2002) and for the Florida Firecats during the 2008 season.

18. Fill in the blank:
I have wanted to be a sports broadcaster since I was eight years old.  I have wanted to host a sports talk radio show for much of the last decade.  I am so grateful and proud to be part of The New Fox Sports Radio 1200, Sports Now.  I know how passionate Southwest Florida is about sports and I promise to bring that same passion to the airwaves weekdays from 3pm-7pm on "The Red Zone."

Producer: Danny C.

Danny@FoxSportsRadio1200.com

1. Why did you get into radio?
I got into radio when I realized I was playing sports video games, not for their superb pixilated graphics in 1998, but because it gave me a chance to call my own play by play. It was so much easier when I knew the spin move was coming right after I hit "B" button!

2. What is your favorite part of your job?
The fact that I win the TV remote battle at home because "watching the game, is part of my JOB!"

3. Who is your favorite athlete of all time?
Jerome Bettis, the man was a force to be reckoned with…

4. Which teams did you root for growing up?
NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates
NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
NBA: Orlando Magic
NCAA: UCF Knights

5. What is the biggest sports rivalry in the country and why?
I'm going to say Red Sox vs. Yankees, I knew it was bad because I went to Yankee Stadium one summer when the Yanks weren't even playing the Red Sox, and a guy sitting next to me in the bleacher section saw another man in a Sox hat all the way at the top of the upper deck, nine innings straight he screamed "JUMP" at the guy.

6. What is the greatest athletic event that you have ever seen?
2008 Daytona 500, I'm not the biggest NASCAR fan, but an event w/ that turn out of passionate fans is almost unheard of.

7. What is a sport that you never thought you would like, but now have grown to enjoy?
NASCAR, I went to my first race in 2005 at Daytona's Pepsi 400… A friend of mine had to almost drag me their, but once the race started, I never sat down. It was amazing.
